WaterRising Institute is engendering the way we manage water for a just, equitable and resilient future.
Out of the Blue worked with WaterRising Institute to redesign WaterWoman Project and then collaborate on bringing her to life.
We provided an updated theory of change and impact development model, organizational strategy, and planning, brand development, content strategy, an explainer video, water sector leadership recruitment, government and sector partnerships, integrated marketing, fundraising materials and pitches, digital and video assets, high-profile strategic planning meetings, and management of multiple multichannel programs and events. Outcomes are numerous, starting with positioning WaterWoman Project for ESG-focused investment to attract its first corporate founding partner, SUEZ.
Highlights include delivering the Gender & Youth Hub for the United Nations 2023 Water Conference, the first global convening on water strategy in almost 50 years. We also delivered a gender-DEI workforce development Explainer. We continue to support strategy and manage a thought leadership series, global events, partner engagement, and the digital platform. Operationalizing the nonprofit startup for the last 18 months, we’ve served in an advisory role for critical business development issues, fundraising, and marketing. Out of the Blue’s founder then joined the all-volunteer Board of Directors, and continues to serve delivering “Engendering a Modern Water Workforce,” through a subgrant by The Water Tower, with support from the U.S. EPA.
Out of the Blue first worked with WaterRising and its fiscal agent, Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice, to develop the nonprofit startup’s original theory of change, partnership materials and market intelligence—back in 2018. We helped hone mission, vision and clarify the value proposition. This helped WaterRising become the first woman-founded nonprofit focused on research in the area of real-time, mobile water quality monitoring.
WaterWoman Project uses data and technology to empower all genders with future-ready skills and decision-making to modernize the way we manage our most invaluable resource.
WaterWoman Project is the first program of WaterRising Institute, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization born out of the Flint, Michigan water crisis. WaterRising works to accelerate gender diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and technology adoption. Through a study and workforce training pilot in 25 cities by 2025, WaterRising will speed and scale action on SDGs 5 (Gender Equality), 6 (Water and Sanitation for All) and 14 (Life Under Water) by 2030.
